Ilios Remote Sensing and the non-profit Hellenic Archaeological Exploration Society are working together to digitize historical objects for non-profits and museums. Here we have artifacts from three different institutions: the USCG Museum Northwest, the Columbia River Maritime Museum, and the Duwamish fireboatd.
We wish to express our gratitute for being granted access and permission to create 3D photogammetry models of historical artifacts as the United States Coast Guard Museum Northwest located at 1519 Alaskan Way South, Seattle, WA 98134, open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The museum may be reached at (206) 217-6993.
Our first photogammetry model is of a Manby Mortar, a rescue device invented in the early 19th century. More can be learned from the 1967 film Manby hosted by the East Anglia Film Archive.
The second model following is of the Peacock pilot boat, exhibted outside the Columbia River Maritime Museum located in Astoria, Oregon. This model was obtained via laser scanning with the Faro S70 laser scanner. This is an incomplete model as the scans were performed from the ground only. As we develop our porfolio of maritime historical artifacts, we wish to offer the CRMM digitzation services of their entire exhibits inside and outside the museum. We will then laser scan the remaining portions of the Peacock from the top deck and the entire interior of the vessel.
The third model and fourth models are from the Seattle fireboat Duwamish. The Duwamish is located at the historic waterfront on south Lake Union. .We plan on laser scanning one of the WW2 era power generators soon. First is a light cover, the second is a filter.
This page will be continously updated with new 3D models that are created to benefit museums and other non-profit organizations.
